F&B, pharma told to tap green packaging

Current and future players in the food, beverage and pharmaceutical sectors have  to innovate and adapt technologies and professional services in the packaging sector to stay ahead in business.

M. Gandhi,   senior vice president of Informa Markets Asia, said in his speech at the opening of ProPak Philippines at the World Trade Center yesterday companies need to should keep up with the global trend where the market is hifting towards sustainable and greener packaging.

“Packaging has been a very important sub-sector within the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries,” Gandhi said.

He added based on data, these sectors have in the past few years enjoyed consistent growth, accompanied by the emergence of new packaging technologies.

“Manufacturers (should) not only consider the quality of the packaging of each product but also its environmental effect,” Gandhi said.

He noted that with the introduction of Industry 4.0 and shift to smart manufacturing, “both smallholders and the corporate sector have to take steps to increase each unit of production by improving technology management, reducing wastes, preventing diseases and adopting automation.

Now on its second run, ProPak Philippines is the country’s biggest packaging and processing trade show. More than 400 exhibitors from 30 countries are participating in the event.
