Economy  to grow  6-7%: FFCCCII

Filipino-Chinese businessmen see the economy growing by 6 to 7 percent this year despite global uncertainties and domestic challenges like inflation.

Henry Lim Bon Liong, president of Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce & Industry Inc. (FFCCCII), said in his speech at the opening ceremony of the group’s national convention yesterday in Pasay City the Philippines has positive macroeconomic fundamentals and os experiencing  strong and positive post-pandemic growth.

Themed  “Unity for Development & Prosperity,”  the FFCCCII’s 33rd biennial national convention was attended by 800 business leaders and delegates from Filipino- Chinese chambers nationwide.

In his keynote at the event, President Marcos Jr.  said 90 business deals that resulted from his state visit to China in January, are now active and being monitored by the Board of Investments (BOI).

Marcos said these companies are engaged in manufacturing, information and technology, business processes management and renewable energy, among others.

During his state visit from January 3 to 5 6 in China, Marcos and his team secured $22.8 billion business deals and $2.1 billion trade purchase intentions.

The President encouraged the members of the FFCCCII to look at the said projects and consider them when they venture into their investments and next endeavors in the country.

Marcos also recognized the FFCCCII’s role as catalyst for growth in the country since its inception in 1954 as well as for its initiatives to reach out and help as many communities as possible.

Lim reported the projects and activities FFCCCII has  done in the past four years including fund-raising and relief efforts at the height of the pandemic, earthquakes, Taal Volcano eruption, and typhoons. FFCCCII  also  helped in facilitating the procurement of 20 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines and as a group acquired 500,000 doses of Sinovac vaccines for  economic frontliners. – With Jocelyn Montemayor
