The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has released the funding to support the P10,000 emergency shelter assistance to over 150,000 households affected by Typhoon Odette.

In a statement yesterday, the DBM said Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman approved earlier this week a special allotment amounting to P1.58 billion granting the request of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for emergency shelter assistance to aid in the reconstruction of 153,410 totally damaged houses in Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao and Caraga regions.

Typhoon Odette hit the country affecting families in Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao and Caraga in December 2021.

DSWD requested for the release of the P1.5 billion on August 2, 2022, which was received by the DBM on August 3. The corresponding Special Allotment Release Order was released on August 8.

Earlier this week, the DBM also approved the release of P2 billion to assist individuals and families in difficult circumstances.

DSWD’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) forms part of the Protective Services for Individuals and Families in Difficult Circumstances.

As of June 30, 2022, the AICS program served over 1.5 million clients exceeding its annual target of around 1.4 million, the DBM said. Around 642,348 remaining clients are projected for 2022. – Angela Celis
