CALAX sets partial operation by Oct

Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. unit MP CALA Holdings Inc. is set to start the partial operation of the Cavite Laguna Expressway (CALAX) next month, while full operation by 2022 of the entire 45-kilometer alignment is on track.

Mark Villar, secretary of the Department of Public Works and Highways, and officials of MP CALA inspected yesterday  the construction  of the 10-km. part of the Laguna portion of Calax starting from the Mamplasan toll barrier to Silang East, Cavite interchange.

Villar told reporters the partial opening of this segment next month will serve 10,000 motorists per day initially. Toll is at P4 per km or P40 for the entire stretch.

He said this will decongest Governor’s drive, Aguinaldo highway and  the Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay road.

Despite the challenges in the right-of-way acquisition, the DPWH is optimistic that the project will be completed before the end of Duterte administration.

Once completed,  the two-hour drive from Kawit, Cavite to Binan, Laguna now using South Luzon expressway towards Aguinaldo highway will be cut to just 45 minutes.

The first segment starts at the Mamplasan Barrier and passes through the Laguna Technopark Interchange, Laguna Boulevard Interchange all the way to Santa Rosa-Tagaytay Interchange.

Laguna segment civil works  started in June 2017 involves the construction of an 18-kilometer new road from Silang (Aguinaldo) Interchange to the existing Mamplasan Interchange of South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) in Biñan, Laguna.

The Cavite segment of CALAX spans 27 kms.  from CAVITEX Connection in Kawit, Cavite to Silang (Aguinaldo) Interchange.

Bobby Bontia,  MP Cala president said this segment is  17 percent complete.

“We look forward to deliver the full 45 kms by the second quarter of 2022. Faster, safer, more comfortable and a reliable route will be experienced by motorists traversing between Bacoor and Kawit, Cavite areas, and the Laguna and South Luzon areas,” Bontai said.

Among the features of CALAX will be automatic license plate recognition system for   barrier-less entry, IP-based speed detection cameras will also be strategically installed together with HD CCTV coverage for the entire stretch of the expressway which will further ensure safety of the motorists.

CALAX is designed to be a four-lane, 45-km toll expressway that will connect CAVITEX in Kawit  to SLEX at the Mamplasan Interchange in Binan, Laguna.

The project will have interchanges in 8 locations, namely: Kawit, Daang Hari, Governor’s Drive, Aguinaldo Highway, Silang, Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay, Laguna Blvd., Technopark, and a Toll Barrier before SLEX.
