Average palay farmgate price increased slightly in July, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
The PSA reported national average farmgate price hit P17.85 per kg for the period, up by 3 percent from July 2021’s P17.34 per kilogram (kg). This is also 1.5 percent higher than June’s price of P17.58 per kg.
The agency did indicate reasons for the increase.
Twelve regions recorded increases year-on-year as of July led by Western Visayas, by 20.9 percent from P16.03 per kg to P19.38 per kg; Bicol, 14.9 percent from P14.83 per kg to P17.03 per kg and Zamboanga Peninsula, 12.3 percent from P16.25 per kg to P18.25 per kg.
Four regions recorded declines led by Eastern Visayas, by 8.1 percent from P19.81 per kg to P18.20 per kg; Mimaropa, 5.4 percent from P18.24 per kg to P17.25 per kg; Northern Mindanao, 5 percent from P19.15 per kg to P18.20 per kg.; and the Cordillera Administrative Region, 2.9 percent or from P19.19 per kg to P18.64 per kg.
