The broader all shares index was down 5.9 points or 0.17 percent to 3,392.92.
Losers edged gainers 92 to 85 with 55 stocks unchanged. Trading turnover reached P5.16 billion.
The peso closed at 55.31 to the dollar, down from 55.13 on Friday.
The currency opened at 55.35 and hit a high of 55.31 and a low of 55.45. Trading turnover reached $1.5 billion.
Luis Limlingan, managing director at Regina Capital and Development Corp., said investors welcomed August with a flat start as they await for strong leads.
Most actively traded Semirara Mining and Power Corp. was down P1.35 to P40.15.
International Container Terminal Services Inc. was down P10.30 to P183.90. SM Prime Holdings Inc. was up P0.40 to P37. BDO Unibank Inc. was down P5.70 to P113.80. Manila Electric Co. was down P12.80 to P327.20. SM Investments Corp. was up P4.50 to P780.
Converge ICT Solutions Inc. was down P0.08 to P18.92. Ayala Land Inc. was up P0.20 to P25.45. Universal Robina Corp. was up P6.70 to P117.70. Ayala Corp. was up P19 to P639.
