Airfares are expected to remain stable in November as the approved fuel surcharge is unchanged at level 4 — the lowest level this year — due to the decline in the prices of jet fuel in the global market.
At level 4, the passenger fuel surcharge ranges from P117 to P342 for domestic flights per passenger, per way. Fuel surcharge for international flights originating from the country ranges from P385.70 to P2,867.82 depending on the destination.
Last September, the fuel surcharge was at level 5, amounting to P151 to P542 and P498.03 to P3,709.11 for domestic and international flights, respectively.
“Airlines wishing to impose or collect fuel surcharge for the same period must file its application with this office on or before the effectivity period,” said Carmelo Arcilla, Civil Aeronautics Board executive director.
The fuel surcharge to be collected uses local currency with applicable conversion rate for the period at P56.09 to a dollar.
The fuel surcharge is not a part of the basic airfare and may be reduced or removed depending on the price of jet fuel in the market by prevailing international practice.
Based on the International Air Transport Association’s latest data, the average jet fuel in the global market stood at $88.47 per barrel as of October 18, higher compared to $85.23 per barrel in September 20.
