Air ticket prices are expected to increase in November due to higher fuel surcharge.

The Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) said in light of the perceived increase in average fares vis-í -vis the increase in operational costs, the fuel surcharge for passenger and cargo services in domestic and international flights will be at level 7 from November 1 to 30, higher than this month’s level 6.

Airlines that intend to impose the fuel surcharge next month must file their application with the CAB on or before the effectivity period, said Carmelo Arcilla, CAB executive director.

At level 7, the fuel surcharge is P219 to P689, up from level 6 which ranges from P185 to P665, for domestic flights, while the international flights’ fuel surcharge will range from P772.71 to P1,124.26, higher than the P610.37 to P949.51 at level 6.

Local airlines are urging passengers to book their flights ahead to avail of cheaper tickets.

“We encourage our customers to book their flights ahead to avail of more affordable fares. Cebu Pacific will stay true to its purpose of making air travel more accessible for every Juan,” said Xander Lao, Cebu Pacific president and chief commercial officer.

AirAsia Philippines said it continues to cushion the effect of rising fuel costs on its ticket prices with various offerings, such as the monthly double-digit sale and the AirAsia “piso” sale which is extended until October 25, for domestic and international travel from March 4, 2024, to March 19, 2025.

“AirAsia guests can also seek further relief from the anticipated adjustments in ticket prices brought about by the volatility of global fuel prices by advance booking, especially for future travels as travel and vacation time peak in the remaining months of the fourth quarter for many Filipinos. Additional savings on travel can also be obtained by tracking on advantage of our best value deals on the airasia Superapp which offers the convenience of booking hotels and flights together with more affordability,” said Steve Dailisan, AirAsia Philippines country head for communications and public affairs first officer.

“We will faithfully comply with the fuel surcharge matrix issued by the CAB which applies to tickets purchased next month (November),” said Cielo Villaluna, Philippine Airlines spokesperson.
