48 airport devt projects completed

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has completed 48 airport development projects in various parts of the country for a total cost of P6.6 billion.

This is in compliance with the directives of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to increase the quality of airports in the country to provide comfortable, accessible and safe travel, DOTr said.

The projects were completed between September 2022 and April 2024, the DOTR said.

These include the construction of airport facilities at Vigan Airport, parallel taxiway phase 1 at Davao International Airport as well as rehabilitation of the passenger terminal building and other facilities at General Santos Airport, Bicol International Airport and Butuan Airport.

DOTr reported that it also completed the development of Laoag International Airport, Basco Airport, Cauayan Airport, Palanan Airport, Busuanga Airport, Cuyo Airport and Bacolod-Silay Airport, among others,

Last month, DOTr opened the bidding for four regional airport improvement projects costing a combined P1.15 billion.

These include the P596.5-million Laoag International Airport development project that involves the rehabilitation and improvement of the existing runway; P72.4-million Vigan Airport project involving asphalt overlay of the runway; and P193.9-million Borongan Airport development project which involves the construction of a turning pad, perimeter fence as well as runway strip grade correction.

In a related development, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has improved Iloilo Airport’s cooling capacity and ensures continued operational efficiency.

Following a successful factory acceptance test at Hitachi’s Japan facility, three chillers worth P37.5 million arrived on July 16 and were fully installed and operational by July 30.
