$2.7B data center to rise in Tarlac

Narra Technology Park Development Inc. is investing $2.7 billion for the establishment of a 300-megawatt hyperscale data center in New Clark City in Capas, the largest so far in the country.

Narra and the provincial government of Tarlac  yesterday signed a lease  agreement for the development of Narra Technology Park (NTP), a 47-hectare facility that will put the Philippines in the map of hyperscale data centers in Asia Pacific.

William Johnson, managing director of the ENDEC Development Corp., said the project will be constructed in three phases of 100MW each,  costing $890 million per phase.

Johnson said the company will spend for the development cost of the property such as roads for $3.5 million.

The lease covers 50 years with extension of 25 years in increments of five.

The Bases Conversion and Development Authority which has allotted the property within the New Clark City will have a 60 percent share in the lease, the amount of which was not disclosed.

Johnson said the first 100 MW is targeted for completion by the fourth quarter 2026.

He said the facility has the flexibility to accommodate a single off taker for the first 100 MW.

Johnson said the company has been in talks with possible offtakers.

The project will employ 1,500 during the construction stage. Once operational, the data center will generate 200 high-skilled jobs in IT operations, maintenance, cybersecurity etc.
