IF basketball fans, particularly online users, can have their way, they want Tim Cone to continue coaching Gilas Pilipinas.
A recent study conducted by Capstone-Intel Corp. showed that online users believe that Cone, who steered the Gilas five to the gold medal in the recent Hangzhou Asian Games, is the perfect man for the job.
Capstone-Intel is a high impact research company that uses innovative research technologies, tools and methods to convert data and information to breakthrough insights and actionable intelligence outputs.
The study was conducted from July to October 2023 by thoroughly scanning different publicly available social media accounts.
Capstone-Intel social listening tools were able to gather 1,612 mentions from posts spanning different parts of the internet, including major social media sites like X, Tiktok, and Instagram.
The company said that on Facebook, there were 502 posts that mentioned Cone, with a total of 1,282,387 reactions once all the posts were consolidated.
One illustrative example in this case pertains to the compelling stories that generated significant engagement, particularly involving Cone.
A post by Basketball Ground on Facebook achieved an impressive engagement score of 23,242.9. Specifically, the post garnered 87,971 (52.1 percent) Like reactions, 80,328 (47.6 percent) Love reactions, 145 (0.1 percent) Haha reactions, 353 (0.2 percent) Wow reactions, and two Sad and Angry reactions each.
According to Capstone-Intel, the significant level of both Like and Love reactions suggests a positive response among online users who have viewed this specific news article.
“This positive sentiment stemming from the high Love and Like reactions can be attributed to the team’s inspiring comeback from previous setbacks, demonstrating their unwavering determination and resilience. The significance of camaraderie and teamwork in major sporting events such as basketball is evident in their success.
“It is not only evident within the team itself but also extends to the players, coaches, and their devoted fans. The warm reception received by Coach Cone upon joining the Gilas team further underscores the importance of unity in driving teams towards victory,” the company said.
“We acknowledge the significant contribution of fan support in enhancing the performance of teams during matches. The overall morale and motivation provided by the fans can often be the determining factors in securing a championship victory,” it added.
The second-highest interaction score was achieved by another article on One Sports’ Facebook page, which drew a comparison between Cone’s return as national coach and the concept of a TOTGA, or “The One That Got Away.”
The article received significant engagement, with a total score of 18,886. Like reactions accounted for 50,861 (37.1%) of the total engagement, followed by Love reactions at 85,958 (62.7%). Additionally, it received 51 Haha reactions, 263 Wow reactions, 1 Sad reaction, and 3 Angry reactions.
