‘So, work muna, saka na ang love — Paulo Avelino’
JANINE Gutierrez and Paulo Avelino are currently being linked to each other after the success of their recent soap, “Marry Me.” They’re the special guests of Ogie Alcasid in his “OA sa Love in the USA” concert tour. In its press con, writers asked them what is the real score about them.
“As of now, we’re both busy,” says Paulo. “I have a new project na sekreto muna while Janine is busy with iWant. So, work muna, saka na ang love.”
“Sa USA na lang,” says Janine. “Kasi ‘yun ang title ng concert natin, ‘di ba? Love in the USA. But seriously, I’m just happy to be part of this show kasi first time ko to perform in a concert out of the country and first time ko ring magka-working visa sa US.”
Janine says she’s grateful that when she moved to ABS-CBN, her first leading man in a teleserye was Paulo. “I really enjoyed working with him. I really feel na sobrang swerte ako na siya ang una kong nakapareha as a Kapamilya.”
Paulo says he is making a side trip to New York to visit his son Aki who lives there with mom, LJ Reyes. “Kasi nasa States na rin lang ako, I might as well go and visit my son. I haven’t seen him since they left for the States last August.”
Will Janine join him in New York? “I don’t know.”
In case she goes with him, how will he introduce her? “Diretso na. Aki, ang nanay mo. Joke!”
With them going to the States together with Janine having no chaperon, it can’t be helped if some folks would speculate that they’ll get married there. Since they have a rest period of six days, they can easily go to Las Vegas for a quickie wedding. “Oo, pwede naman to go there by land,” says Ogie.
So what will he do if they’d go there?
“’Di kunin nila akong ninong,” Ogie jokes.
Don’t miss “OA sa Love in the USA” at Alex Theater in Glendale, California on March 26, at the Sycuan Casino Resort in San Diego, California on April 2, and at the Morongo Casino Resort and Spa in Cabazon, California on April 3.

Rita Daniela gets one of the most demanding roles in her career playing a dedicated teacher in a remote village in Joel Lamangan’s “Madawag ang Landas Patungong Pag-asa,” an advocacy film that pays homage to teachers in far-flung areas who are overworked but underpaid.
In the story, she faces a lot of opposition from parents who don’t want their kids to go back to school. She visits their houses one by one to personally talk to them.
“Iba-iba ang dahilan nila and it’s hard to explain the importance of education to them. In one instance, may isang nanay na hahabulin pa ako ng taga kaya nagtatakbo ako, natapilok pa ako at nadapa. Walang ibang teachers na gustong magturo sa bayan nila kasi ‘yung previous teacher and principal, napatay sa enkwentro ng mga rebelde at militar.”
She has two leading men in the movie: Jak Roberto as a soldier and Albie Casino as a rebel. How does it feel being paired with other actors now that her regular “RitKen” ka-love team, Ken Chan, is also paired with another leading lady, Bianca Umali, in “Mano Po Legacy 2: Her Big Boss”?
“Akala nung iba, nagtatampo ako but, the truth is I’m very happy for him. Bago pa man kami nag-click sa ‘My Special Tatay,’ dati na naman siyang ipinapareha sa iba. And sinabi naman ‘yun ng GMA management sa amin, don’t expect na kami na lang lagi ang magkasama, kasi we have to grow as actors with separate careers.”

GMA has another hit in their new whodunit suspense-drama, “Widow’s Web.” It’s trouncing all its rivals in the ratings game and it looks like viewers are properly intrigued by its mystery premise. The story starts with the murder of Ryan Eigenmann as Alexander Sagrado, heir to the wealthy Sagrado family fortune.
He and his sister Barbara, played by Carmina Villaroel, are rivals in their desire to control their family’s business empire so Barbara is the first to be suspected as the killer. The show tries to explore the world of the alta sociedad and this is amply represented in the lavish, nouveau riche mansion of the Sagrados.
Carmina delivers a topnotch performance playing the lead role of the snooty elder sister who feels so entitled. She is sore that it’s her brother who’s their company’s president and not her so it’s not surprising that she has a personal motive in wanting to get rid of Ryan as Alexander.
“The show is something different kasi most of the characters are not just the usual black or white na puede agad ma-identify ng viewers kung sino ang mabuti at sino ang masama,” says Carmina. “Dito, most characters are gray kaya halos lahat, mapagsususpetsahan na may pansarili nilang motibo to murder Alexander. Pag-iisipin talaga ang viewers in solving the mystery of who the real killer is.”
Carmina as Barbara is really quite a puzzle: is she good or is bad? “We’re really happy sa magandang reception ng primetime viewers sa ‘Widow’s Web,’” adds Carmina. “The feedback on the internet is very encouraging dahil nagagandahan sila sa takbo ng story.
Lahat ay curious malaman kung sino ba talaga ang pumatay kay Alexander.”
