After the first online solo art show featuring the Vespa History Series last 2021, Shell National Arts Competition finalist and University of Santo Tomas Fine Arts graduate Michael Anthony Sagaran partnered with ArtPh for the of an online art exhibition entitled Mercedes-Benz SL History: An Exhibit By Michael Anthony Sagaran.
The Mercedes-Benz History: An Exhibit By Michael Anthony Sagaran showcases ten paintings of the legendary Mercedes-Benz SL Class models from the first Grand Prix 300SL model to the 2018 Mercedes-Benz AMG SL 63.
Some of the paintings include the 1954 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing (W198), arguably the first ‘supercar’. It was the fastest production car of its day with a 3.0-litre straight-six, those fantastic doors, and looks that still mark it out as the prettiest Benz in history.
Meanwhile, the Mercedes-Benz SL, 1963 model’s beautiful styling of the gently inwardly sloping roof would earn it the nickname ‘Pagoda’. Penned by Paul Bracq, this now iconic design is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful cars of all time.
The R129-generation SL-Class debuted at the 1989 Geneva motor show with a 3.0-liter inline-six engine, badged 300 SL, and a 5.0-liter V8 badged 500 SL. It is widely believed that the R129 will be a classic, and prices of the very best examples have been on the rise for several years. It’s already seen as a desirable, practical and usable modern classic that can be driven regularly, and it’s certainly of interest to car collectors.
In this artwork series, Sagaran’s attention to detail not only displays a realistic rendition of the grand touring sports car by Mercedes-Benz but also captures the power and beauty of the personal luxury car. “I was inspired by the beauty, historical value, and the great contribution in the automobile industry of the German carmaker Mercedes-Benz that I decided to express it into a painting series” Sagaran quoted.

Sagaran is also a hotelier who worked as PR and marketing in several brands such as Sofitel, Novotel, Crimson Hotel, Taal Vista Hotel. He was also recognized by Hotel Sales and Marketing as one of the awardees for Virtus Awards – Most Outstanding Marketing Campaign for Taal Vista Hotel’s 80th Anniversary campaign.
