San Miguel, the most beloved beer in the Philippines, is served at all levels of society — from sidewalk drinking sessions, to the houses and offices of the rich and famous. And while the squat brown bottle is a mainstay in every drinking session in the country, San Miguel Brewery (SMB) offers more than its well-loved pilsner and its variants.
The classic Cerveza Negra and the newer Cerveza Blanca are part of the company’s Lifestyle Brew lineup which for the next 4 weeks will be in the spotlight as SMB partners with CC:Concepts — known for the UNKNWN event series. CC:Concepts will host SMB’s draft event series named TILT // On Tap On Tour to launch the Cerveza Negra and Blanca draft. Draft beer is widely considered the best form of beer as these are usually the freshest. This allows customers to enjoy a more nuanced experience as flavor and aroma notes are more intense.
The Cerveza Negra and Cerveza Blanca draft beers were launched at Izakaya Geronimo and SMB’s brewmaster Alan Sienes partnered with Chef Christian Manawis to create a tasting menu that highlighted the different flavor profiles of the two brews. Dishes such as the Filet o’ Mackerel and the Salmon Temaki highlighted the orange and coriander notes of the Belgian-style wheat beer that is Cerveza Negra. Meanwhile, the Cerveza Negra’s smokey caramel notes paired well with the Bacon Shrimp and the Araro Gelato. This was followed by performances from the Moving Parts Crew, as doors opened to the public.
The event series then continues throughout June and July across various venues in Metro Manila. On June 28, Moonshine P.U.B. x Public Urban Bar in Ortigas will be serving both beers on tap as Poison x Mother Crew bring on the electro music. This will be followed by Brick and Mortar at Bonifacio Global City with Sounds Nais creating a laid-back musical soundscape.
The party goes down south on July 13 as LockedDown Entertainment brings an indie-garage music party at Bar IX in Alabang before bringing it full circle back to BGC as BSK Manila hosts the draft beer event with techno music from Medusa x House Collab.
