Filipinos place a premium on good education, seeing it as one of the keys in creating a better life for themselves and their families. For many, being able to study abroad can be considered a pipe dream, not just due to costs, but the difficulty in finding schools and help in the application process itself.
The European Union (EU) hopes to address this issue with the European Higher Education Fair (EHEF) which is going virtual this year. The fair will run from October 1 to 2 and according to EU Ambassador Luc Véron, it will be a one-stop shop that would be able to address the concerns of individuals looking to study in EU.
“EU wants to give Filipino students access to information about pursuing their higher education in European universities, institute, and colleges. We also want to underscore the importance of mobility, innovation, partnerships, and lifelong learnings,” Véron said.
“This fair is therefore a one-stop shop, an information hub to know more about the EU and the center of academic excellence, its higher education institutions, their graduate and post-graduate programs, and the opportunities for financial support to student mobility such as Erasmus and EU Scholarship program,” he added.
This year’s EHEF will be the biggest yet, with 140 European higher education institutions offering MA andPhDs that will improve the career opportunities of talented Filipinos wishing to study in any of this year’s participating EU member states, namely, Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, Ireland, Spain, France, Italy, Hungary, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Finland, and Sweden.
EHEF participants will be allowed to chat live with other Filipino alumni and representatives of different European schools. They will also be given free access to webinars on specialized courses and programs.
The fair also allows European and Philippine higher education institutions to explore partnership opportunities, mobility exchanges, joint research undertakings, and other forms of higher education cooperation. University partners for this year includes University of Sto Tomas, University of the Cordilleras, Lyceum of the Philippines University – Batangas, Mabalacat City College, St Louis University, Rizal Technological University, Trinity University of Asia, Ateneo de Manila University, Visayas State University, Jose Rizal Memorial State University and Mindanao State University’s (Marawi) College of Public Affairs.
It has also partnered with local educational institutions which include Wesleyan University in Luzon, Silliman University in Visayas, and Xavier University —Ateneo de Cagayan in Mindanao, which will host
Clustered presentations for students and other members of the academe.
The Virtual EHEF 2021 is organized by the Delegation of the European Union to the Philippines, together with EU Member States’ Embassies, education services and Institutes and in collaboration with the Commission on Higher Education. Registration currently ongoing at www.ehefphilippines.com.
