The Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) is turning to artificial intelligence (AI) to assist stakeholders in accessing critical and accurate information related to employment.

ECOP is also using AI in recruiting people in its goal to create one million jobs this year.

The group’s Helpdesk will now transition to a more efficient AI-powered chatbot, thereby enhancing the accessibility to members, Sergio Ortiz-Luis, ECOP president, said in his speech at the opening of the National Conference of Employers themed “Job Generation in a Technology-Driven Environment” at the Manila Hotel yesterday.

Ortiz-Luis said the AI Helpdesk is in its pilot program and comes in the form of developing a generative AI technology to enhance the dissemination of knowledge. It has started operating last month and will be formally launched in January.

The International Training Center of the International Labor Organization is once again providing ECOP with technical assistance to automate and streamline the ECOP Helpdesk, Ortiz-Luis added.

The Helpdesk was institutionalized in 2017 and uses traditional communication platforms like phone calls, emails and Facebook messenger where ECOP specialists and staff provide assistance manually.

“We constantly explore more innovative ways for our constituents to easily access information and help from us,” Ortiz-Luis said.

On the 1M Jobs program, ECOP is focused on setting up the platform where applicants do not have to be physically present to apply for a job, and finding the match between prospective employers and applicants.

Meanwhile, Ortiz-Luis said ECOP does not expect Senate to push anew for the legislated wage hike under the leadership of Senate President Francis Escudero, following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s declaration that any increase in pay should be tackled by the wage boards.
