Writer-director Crisanto B. Aquino ( (“Write About Love,” “Instant Daddy”) believes in destiny. Last Tuesday, in the first press conference for the movie “My Future Self,” starring the “Franseth” love team of Seth Fedelin and Francine Diaz, the filmmaker talked about the movie’s journey, from its inception during the start of COVID to having had to change staff four times, and waiting for cinemas to lift the restrictions before the production finally got the ball rolling.
“Feeling ko since the movie itself talks about destiny, the movie is destined talaga for ‘Franseth’,” Aquino said.
“As their first film, parang magiging mahalaga rin sa kanila bilang artista ‘yung unang pelikula kaya parang destiny siya. Para sa kanila talaga ‘tong ‘My Future You’.”
Aquino also noted that physically, Francine and Seth were the right fit for the roles of Karen, a business administration graduate from a middle-class family, and Lex, an only child from a rich background. “Sa mata pa lang ni Francine, nakikita ko na ‘yung pagkatao ni Karen sa kanya, at si Seth, ‘yung pagiging napakabuting bata, ‘yung pagiging mabuting anak … nakikita kung gaano nya kamahal ‘yung family niya, [kung gaano siya] ka ulirang anak, ganung gan’on si Lex. Parang meant for them talaga ‘yung kwento.”
Beyond their physical attributes, the look test further convinced the director that he had the right pair for the project. In industry terms, Francine and Seth were oozing with chemistry. “Nung pinagsama ko sila for the first time in one frame, nung nakaharap sa camera, ok pa. Nung nagtinginan na, wala na. Lumabas na ‘yung kilig sa isa’t isa. Nakakakilig sila. Ang gaan-gaan nila pareho sa screen,” he related.
Regal Entertainment producer Roselle Monteverde even added that industry insiders were both impressed and excited that Francine and Seth were onboard the young romance film “My Future You.”
Francine and Seth, for their part, are proud and excited to star in “My Future You.” For five years, FranSeth have shared a strong friendship. When asked about envisioning each other in their futures, both echoed the title of their movie, affirming their mutual desire to maintain a presence in each other’s lives.
“Gusto ko andun si Francine sa future ko,” said Seth.
“My Future You” is a romance drama with a dollop of kilig and fantasy. Francine’s Karen and Seth’s Lex meet through an online dating app. However, they learn that they are 15 years apart. Armed with this knowledge, Karen and Lex try to change the past to have a better future. But each revision invariably leads to an undesirable effect in the future.
“My Future You” also stars Vance Larena, Marcus Madrigal, Bodjie Pascua, Peewee O’Hara, Almira Muhlach, and Christian Vasquez.
