While most art pieces are displayed in galleries and museums, hotels are also a an important venue for artistic works thanks to the numerous guests that pass through their halls. Belmont Hotel has regularly put artists on the spotlight through its lobby art exhibit series Hiraya and for its 4th installment, the hotel has chosen contemporary artist Marlon Luceñara from Sagay City, Negros Occidental.
Marlon is known for his paintings and sculptures. Starting with just 200 pesos, he transformed scrap materials from a junk shop into art, illustrating the value of imagination. He made a name for himself with his various works which were well-received by the country’s art community. He has won awards such as the Sining Award and Kinetic Sculpture of the year.
Reflecting on his artistic journey, Marlon emphasized the importance of dreams and determination, stating, “Nothing is impossible with the Lord, supported by prayer, hard work, and perseverance.” He recounted how, through his dedication to creating various art sculptures and experimenting with painting, he was able to achieve his dreams and provide a better life for his family.
The recent opening day of the exhibit was a celebration attended by friends from the media and loyal clients. The Belmont Hotel Manila’s Director of Operations, Mayann Malapote, and Cluster General Manager, Socrates Alvaro welcomed the guests. The event also served delightful Filipino cuisines with a twist prepared by the talented culinary team.
“Hiraya” is part of Belmont Hotel Manila’s lobby art exhibit series, aimed at preserving Filipino culture while promoting the works of local artists. This marks the fourth occasion the hotel has provided a platform for artists to display their creations, and they look forward to continued collaborations in the future.
