Manila Water has once again demonstrated its commitment to environmental sustainability by achieving a 100% compliance score in the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System Regulatory Office’s (MWSS-RO) effluent quality scorecard. This milestone underscores the company’s adherence to the General Effluent Standards set by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA).
In November 2024, all 26 of Manila Water’s wastewater treatment facilities, including two septage treatment plants, met or exceeded the 95% compliance target for key indicators such as Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Oil and Grease, Total Suspended Solids (TSS), Surfactants, and Fecal Coliform. These facilities ensure that treated wastewater and byproducts are safely disposed of, protecting public health and marine ecosystems.
“For Manila Water, this milestone is a testament to our continued commitment to safeguarding public health and marine life through quality sanitation services,” said Jeric Sevilla, Manila Water Communication Affairs Group Director.
To maintain this high standard, Manila Water encourages customers to take advantage of its desludging services, which ensure proper treatment of septic tank waste before its release into water bodies. In February 2025, the company will roll out its Desludging Caravan, offering free septic tank siphoning services in several barangays across Metro Manila and Rizal Province.
Desludging Caravan Schedule
The caravan will visit the following areas in Metro Manila:
- Mandaluyong City: Daang Bakal, Highway Hills, New Zaniga, Old Zaniga, Poblacion
- Quezon City: Alicia, Pasong Tamo
- Pasig City: Caniogan
- Taguig City: Central Bicutan
In Rizal Province:
- Montalban: Barangays Balite (Pob.), San Rafael, San Isidro, San Jose
- Antipolo City: Barangay Mayamot
Residents can contact the Manila Water Customer Service Hotline at 1627 or coordinate with their barangay council for specific schedules.
This initiative aligns with Manila Water’s broader environmental goals under the Philippine Clean Water Act. By providing free desludging services and maintaining world-class wastewater treatment standards, Manila Water continues to lead efforts in sustainable water management while improving public health outcomes.
