MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
In these days of rapidly evolving industry, I consider every year that passes for this company to be hard-earned and deeply felt. Ang Pahayagang Malaya had a strong purpose upon its inception, and after EDSA, when my grandfather Jake Macasaet became its publisher, he led it as a daily newspaper for years. As a business writer himself, he later re-envisioned it as a business paper. This rebranding proved advantageous in many ways to both the paper and the company. I learned from one of our editors that my grandfather’s vision was to make complex business news more accessible.
We aim to continue honoring this goal by further improving the paper, recognizing that one way to make information accessible is to show people how to think about it—through insight and analysis in news and information. One of our first concrete steps in this direction is bringing onboard Ms. Nerilyn Tenorio as our new Editor-in-Chief. Her experience, integrity, and leadership as a business journalist and editor will be invaluable to our mission. When I pitched our vision to Ms. Tenorio, it came with the challenge to make Malaya Business Insight not just more robust but to help us tap into its vast potential to be a distinctive voice in the industry.
Another approach to accessibility is recognizing our growing target markets: millennials and Gen Z professionals. This is why we’re focusing on social media—and beyond. We want to serve these audiences by covering up-and-coming stories, startups, entrepreneurs, artists, and individuals. We live in late-stage capitalism where business models are changing, and the need to find both purpose and work is ever-present. We aim to be a channel that offers insight, advice, and value through the information we provide. Ultimately, we want to build a community of reliable voices you can turn to for encouragement and guidance.
While our goal of becoming a multimedia company is ambitious, we’re approaching it step by step, continuing to support and strengthen our business paper while building foundations for new projects under the Malaya brand. We want to embody Malaya in many senses of the word: to represent freedom in thought, perspective, and creativity, ensuring that the information you read and watch from us provides stability and supports better decision-making, empowering you to be free thinkers and opportunity-seekers in these uncertain times.
Thank you to our clients, partners, and friends for celebrating another year with us—your support and belief in our vision are invaluable, and we strive to deliver an even better product and experience in the year ahead. Our goals for evolution and continuous improvement are, first and foremost, for you.
I would also like to extend my gratitude to everyone in the company, to each person who has embraced our vision and understands the need to grow with the times. I recognize all of your efforts in delivering the daily issues and this grand anniversary issue to our clients—thank you for your hard work, and let’s continue to strive for growth and think outside the box.
Happy 42nd anniversary to Malaya. Here’s to another year of new beginnings.
Monica Macasaet
President/COO

There’s electric energy at Malaya Business Insight these days. As the publication marks its 42nd anniversary, it’s not just celebrating another milestone – it’s charging into a transformation that honors its roots while embracing tomorrow’s challenges.
The Malaya story began with a simple but powerful idea: a newspaper, independent and free, providing people the news and information previously unavailable under a regime which kept the press under strict government control.
As a business newspaper, it offered a different kind of freedom: making complex business news accessible to readers, empowering professionals and business leaders with knowledge to make informed decisions. Today, under new Editor-in-Chief Nerilyn Tenorio, that mission is taking on fresh life. Beyond the publication’s crisp new look lies a deeper evolution in how it analyzes and presents the stories shaping Philippine business.
Business leaders need more than just news in today’s fast-moving market. They need insights that drive decisions. This understanding shapes Malaya Business Insight’s focus on market-moving analysis and deep dives into the forces reshaping the business landscape.
The digital expansion and social media presence mark more than just keeping up with the times. They represent a bridge to the next generation of business leaders – millennials and Gen Z professionals who are already reshaping how business works. The coverage now spans emerging trends, startups, and innovative business models, all while maintaining the credibility that has been Malaya’s hallmark for four decades.
The name “Malaya” – freedom – takes on fresh meaning in this context. It reflects not just independent journalism, but the power of informed decision-making in today’s complex business environment. The publication is building a community where business leaders can find the insights they need to navigate uncertainty and seize opportunities.
As it enters its 43rd year, Malaya Business Insight is doubling down on what matters most: helping shape better business decisions that drive the Philippine economy forward. It’s a natural evolution for a publication that has always understood that good business journalism is about more than reporting – it’s about illuminating the path ahead.
The transformation underway marks more than an anniversary. It signals the start of an exciting new chapter in Philippine business journalism, one that promises to help shape the future of business itself.
