In the heart of Intramuros, a vibrant new hub is bridging the Philippines’ rich history with its innovative future. The recently unveiled Centro de Turismo, located at Calle Arzobispo on the ruins of San Ignacio Church, invites visitors to immerse themselves in the stories of historical heroes while celebrating the creative expressions of modern Filipinos. This unique space showcases artifacts that trace the archipelago’s journey from pre-colonial times to the Spanish colonial era, reflecting the resilience and artistry of Filipino culture.

On January 27, 2025, the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) Philippines held its annual ‘Pasasalamat’ event at this historic venue, honoring media professionals and content creators who have played a pivotal role in promoting the diverse regions of the Philippines. TPB Chief Operating Officer Maria Margarita Montemayor Nograles expressed gratitude for their contributions, stating, “Pasasalamat is our way of recognizing the invaluable contributions of our partners in helping us share the wonders of the Philippines. It is through your dedication and support that we have been able to achieve these milestones and inspire travelers to experience our country.”

The evening was a celebration of cultural pride, with performances that harmonized beautifully with the backdrop of Centro de Turismo. Acapellago delivered modern renditions of Filipino classics, while the Sindaw Performing Arts Guild showcased stunning traditional dances, creating a lively atmosphere that resonated with attendees.

Nograles emphasized tourism’s transformative role in communities, highlighting how initiatives like Centro de Turismo Intramuros are catalysts for meaningful opportunities. Underlining their success, she shared that TPB generated an impressive PHP11.3 billion in sales leads in 2024—a remarkable 44.8% increase from the previous year.

“Together, we are the storytellers of our nation. As we move forward into 2025, let today’s gathering remind us of the power of collaboration and shared purpose,” Nograles encouraged guests during her empowering speech.

Following the program, attendees were invited on a guided tour of Centro de Turismo, exploring its carefully curated exhibits that tell the story of Philippine history. The center not only serves as a museum but also as a community space where visitors can engage with their heritage through interactive displays and multimedia presentations.

As guests wandered through the halls filled with over 8,000 artifacts—many sourced from the adjacent Museo de Intramuros—they were reminded of the importance of preserving this legacy for future generations. The event concluded on an optimistic note, reaffirming TPB’s mission to champion sustainable tourism while creating opportunities for all Filipinos.

Centro de Turismo Intramuros stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of Filipino culture and innovation. It invites everyone to explore its treasures and reflect on how history shapes our identity today. Whether you’re a history enthusiast or simply looking for a unique experience in Manila, this new cultural gem promises an unforgettable journey into the heart of Filipino heritage.
