Ramon Ang’s generosity
Ramon Ang, chairman of San Miguel Corp. and a string of other companies, has donated P50 million to the Manila Cathedral Foundation. Straight from the heart made stronger by the fact that Artemio Panganiban, former Chief Justice, is his close friend. The foundation is raising money to repair the cathedral now closed due to structural defects. The foundation may want to use the money to set up livelihood projects among the teeming poor living in squalor, some in the vicinity of Catholic churches. Ramon Ang is Chinese-Filipino who is not known for being religious. He just happens to have a healthy appreciation for the lot of the poor. We suppose he hopes the tidy sum he parted with will be used for the less privileged.
