THE House of Representatives took a pause from its Plenary Session last Monday, May 12, to honor Clarita Villarba Rivera, also known as Mila del Sol, for her contributions to the movie industry that enriched Philippine culture. House Resolution 165, which was passed by Congress states: “Ms. Mila del Sol is considered as one of the pioneers of the Philippine entertainment industry and is also widely recognized as one of the queens of the golden age of Philippine cinema. Furthermore, it was stated that she “remains as the only living actress from the 1930s which makes her a link of the pre-and post-war eras of the Philippine movie industry. Some four decades ago, it was a pleasure having had the chance to meet this grand lady through her son, Sonny Tambunting and his better half, Terry. The Tambuntings with their well-brought-up children lived in the old part of San Juan and were engaged in (then) innovative janitorial and security businesses.

AS a child some six decades ago, I remember most parents with children my age sent their children “out of the house” for vacation or take up lessons in swimming, piano, cooking, etc. Now I realize why parents did this. It was about the time of year they thought was best to do repairs at home.

I DO not know why it is that right after Holy Week, I thought of my longtime friend, Goullee Gorospe whom I have known to be funny, naughty, and specially ‘street smart’ (a trait which I could probably envy about him).
