We never really got to know Eddie Romero and yet he was dear to us, like next of kin, although of a different nature. He was like all the other old guards who had passed on before him – king of glamorous dramas Danny Zialcita, feminist director Marilou Diaz-Abaya, the great yet reclusive Mario O’Hara, and Celso Ad Castillo who favored big, sweeping ala-David Lean dramas.
