Wangs rips AMA five

WITH Bong Quinto leading the way, Wangs Basketball-Letran roared to a runaway 93-75 victory over AMA Online Education in the PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup yesterday at the Pasig City Sports Center.

Quinto had 19 points, 10 rebounds and six assists, while Bonbon Batiller, formerly of University of the East who had transferred to Letran, added 15, five boards, three dimes and two steals. JP Calvo had 12 points.

After battling the Titans to a tight battle in the opening period, the Couriers got going in the second behind Rey Publico, JP Calvo, and Bonbon Batiller, and took a 12-point lead.

Wangs sustained the run and went into the fourth quarter with a 67-52 lead.

“Masaya syempre ganyan ‘yung resulta. Pero marami pa ring kailangang gawin,” said Wangs coach Jeff Napa.

Michael Cañete led AMA with 20 points, including 17 in the first half, and 11 had rebounds.

Kris Porter scored 13 and Carlo Escalambre added 11 points. Andre Paras grabbed 11 rebounds but failed to score for AMA.

Batiller, who sat out last year for residency requirements, said he has adjusted to the system of Napa.

“Naka-adjust na rin ako sa Letran at sa sistema ni coach Jeff. Masaya naman po at sinama ako ni coach Jeff sa D-League,” he said.
