Revellers whip Titans, regain D-League lead

CHE’LU Bar and Grill took to heart some painful lessons the last time out and put them to good use yesterday.

The Revellers made mincemeat of hapless AMA Online Education Titans, scoring a merciless 139-101 victory to regain the solo lead in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

Former pro Jeff Viernes sizzled with a game-high 35 points spiked by seven three-pointers while new addition and another former pro in Levi Hernandez wound up with 22 markers. Jason Melano notched a double-double of 12 and 10.

Chris Bito-on, Jessie Collado, and Stephen Siruma chipped in 12, 11, and 10, respectively, as the Revellers hiked their card to 6-2 while keeping AMA Online Education winless in eight games.

With the emphatic 38-point triumph, the Revellers redeemed themselves from their numbing 83-91 loss to Marinerong Pilipino-Technological Institute of the Philippines last Monday.

Revellers coach Stevenson Tiu downplayed his charges’ impressive win, saying: “When is good enough? Hindi naman pare-pareho ang makakalaban, kaya dapat iyong intensity namin dapat pare-parehas. Kailangan ayusin namin iyong mga bad habits sa mga ganitong laro.”

“Iyong games na ganito pwede namin i-test iyong ibang players para pagdating ng playoffs, handa sila,” he added.

The Revellers used a vicious 31-point second quarter to pull away and take a 60-42 spread and never looked back from there.

Andre Paras paced the Titans with 16 points while John Carlo Garcia and Ken Soriano had 15 apiece.

In the other game, Centro Escolar University fended off a late Batangas-Emilio Aguinaldo College fightback, hacking out an 84-75 victory to gain a share of third.

Shooter Orlan Wamar scattered 17 points, to go with six rebounds and eight assists while Pierce Chan chipped in 13 markers for the Scorpions.

Judel Fuentes and 6-foot-5 Cameroonian import Gilles Oloume also had 12 and 11 points, respectively as CEU improved to 4-3 in a tie with idle Marinerong Pilipino-Technological Institute of the Philippines while the Generals slipped to 3-4.
