Ocean Park Hong Kong marks 40th year

OCEAN Park Hong Kong, the unique homegrown theme park which connects people with nature, is introducing its attractions and shows as it celebrates its 40th anniversary, offering Filipino guests travel packages, exciting activities and special deals.

Among the packages up for grabs at this world-class attraction are the Super Value Buddy Package (buy three tickets, get one adult free), Themed Restaurant Gourmet Package (admission ticket plus three-course meal at either one of two themed restaurants), Admission Plus Restaurant Meal Combo (admission ticket plus a main course and beverage at one of five restaurants), and Fun and Shop Combo (admission ticket plus HKD100 souvenir cash coupon).

Vivian Lee, executive director for Business Development and Education at Ocean Park Hong Kong, is inviting one of its key markets in Southeast Asia – the Philippines – to avail of these packages which are offered until the end of the year in select travel agents.

Lee added Philippine National Bank also has promo offers to its credit cardholders when they visit the park, valid until July 31.

These deals include 12 percent discount on daytime admission (maximum of four tickets per transaction), 10 percent off on souvenirs at retail stores (excluding consignment, discounted, fixed-price items, chargeable services and vending machine products) and 10 percent discount on food and beverage for minimum purchase of HKD100 in open restaurants (excluding McDonald’s outlet, food kiosks and mobile carts).

Lee said among the new features is the Ocean Park MTR Station that opened last December, connecting tourists from the city center to the park in a couple of minutes. “The doorway to the Ocean Park makes it even more convenient,” she added.

Still one of the best features is the theme park’s scenery, said Lee. “People are not only entertained when they come to Ocean Park… They are also educated about environmental conservation,” she added.

Ocean Park, which offers thrill rides as well as animal attractions, also arranges special seasonal events, namely the Summer Splash, Halloween Fest, Christmas Sensation, Lucky Lunar Fiesta and Animal Discovery. “Once every two months, we have an event. Every time one goes to Ocean Park, they would feel a different kind of experience,” said Lee.

“Whether you are families or buddies… They can still get something, special offer for them,” she added.

Likewise, the Ocean Park Hong Kong mobile app was developed to provide guests with details and info about the park’s attractions and conservation efforts. Guests can pick their three favorite attractions and the app’s eScheduler helps reserve the visit time to avoid long queues.

Lee said eCoupons surprise guests with discounts and privileges throughout the park. A Virtual Guided Tour provides real-time video and audio for a more fun and in-depth visit of the animal exhibits, while the Interactive Park Map recommends the best route with location-based navigation in the park.

The park provides guests with unlimited, free high-speed Wi-Fi network that covers all attractions, restaurants, retail stores, theatres, queuing areas, classrooms and in-park transportation facilities, supporting more than 400,000 mobile devices.

The Hong Kong Ocean Park Marriott Hotel is also expected to open in the second quarter of 2018.

The park extends promos to its different partners, Lee said. A joint promotion with Enchanted Kingdom (EK) offers EK guests 15 to 20 percent discount. Guests who purchased EK tickets can avail of the discount when they come to Ocean Park Hong Kong.

Matthias Li, chief executive at Ocean Park Hong Kong, said the park has noted an increase in tourists from the Philippines last year.

Li said records have shown that 40 percent of tourists who visit the park are from Hong Kong, 40 percent from mainland China and 20 percent from other countries – with the Philippines, considering its proximity, as the top contributor. “We don’t have a target in mind but we wish to accommodate more tourists in this celebration,” he said.

According to Li, Ocean Park is able to balance entertainment, recreation and the educational aspect. “We have a park with animals… It is our responsibility to ensure that guests who visit would know about our efforts – education and conservation,” he said.
