Gilas routs Indonesia, bags crown

GILAS Pilipinas concluded its domination of the 2017 SEABA tournament by demolishing Indonesia 97-64 last night in the championship game before a good-sized crowd at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Naturalized player Andray Blatche registered 21 points and 10 rebounds in leading a balanced attack by the Nationals, whose drive gained steam as the game wore on.

Gilas ended the tourney with a 6-0 card after the week-long tournament held to decide which team gets to represent the sub-zone in the FIBA Asia Cup set Aug. 10-20 in Lebanon.

Jayson Castro added 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists while June Mar Fajardo 13 markers. All but one of the 12 players fielded in by coach Chot Reyes scored as the Philippines clinched its eighth title in the biennial meet.

Akri Wisnu had 11 points while Mario Wuysang added 10 points for Indonesia, which failed in its bid for a second title after its 1996 triumph.
