Columnist survives slay try in Batangas

A COLUMNIST of a daily tabloid was hurt while his driver was badly injured after an unidentified gunman shot at them in Batangas City on Wednesday night.

SPO2 Edsel dela Cruz, officer-on-case, identified the two as Crisenciano “Cris” Ibon, who writes the column “Sikreta” on Police Files Tonite and a resident of Barangay Bolbok, Batangas City; and his driver, Gerry Ebreo, 42, of Barangay Kumintang Ibaba, Batangas City.

Reports said the two were at the residence of a Rose Mary Mendoza in Barangay Kumintang Ilaya watching a basketball game when a gunman emerged from nowhere and shot them. The gunman fled after Ibon pulled out his gun.

Ibon was hit in the right shoulder while Ebreo  was hit in the back. They are confined in separate hospitals.

Joel Sy Egco, head of the Presidential Task Force of media security who talked to Ibon yesterday morning, said the columnist suspected illegal gambling operators in Lipa City and Padre Garcia town as behind the attack.
