An accidental artist

PAINTING was never an activity Loida Tan envisioned to do nor did she feel that she had the talent to excel in. It all started with her visits to Sunshine Place to accompany her mother-in-law.

They were looking for an activity that her mother-in-law can engage in and enjoy. Her mother-in-law ended up doing painting and to encourage her, Loida decided to join as well to keep her company and to give painting a try. One thing led to another until she realized how much she enjoyed it.

At first, it was just an activity until colleagues and friends started to take notice of her art pieces.

That was when she was encouraged to take on more focus on subjects that interest her. Loida’s collection is eclectic and is driven by what she likes visually. She willingly tries to work on new subjects, a feat she finds challenging.

‘That’s why I am not surprised that for his 90th birthday he just has a  “simple” wish, which he handwrote in a letter on plain bond paper and which he showed me.’
