Lovi, Erich rivals only on screen

FROM reel to real?

“The Significant Other” stars Erich Gonzales and Lovi Poe deny that what transpired months ago on the set of the romantic movie has affected their friendship. Although from rival networks, the two actresses say the catfight scene they shot that became all-too-realistic because they both got hurt is nothing but that – a scene they had to do upon the direction of veteran filmmaker Joel Lamangan.

Lovi and Erich are friends, they maintain. In an interview with Lovi, she related Erich indeed got hurt during the scene when Erich hit Lovi’s ring. But when the scene was over, there was no animosity between the two.

“Kami ni Erich we’re very, very good kasi kahit gano’n ‘yung mga nagyari sa mga scenes, hindi maiiwasan talaga na you get carried away lalung-lalo na ‘pag sineseryoso mo ‘yung craft mo,” Lovi was quoted as saying,  “So I’m very happy na sa ganitong klase ng pelikula, I’m with Tom [Rodriguez], I’m with Erich pa, tapos si Joel Lamangan nag-direk. Parang it’s just the perfect combination ng lahat. No one’s doing it na hindi tinototoo. Gano’n kasi ‘pag ramdam mo.”

“The Significant Other” is centered on Lovi and Erich, top fashion models who are romantically involved with the same man – plastic surgeon Edward (Rodriguez). Erich believes she is going through a whirlwind courtship with the man of her dreams while Loci is fighting for a deep secret that benefits her and her man. Both women believe that they are their man’s significant other.

It is written by Enrique Ramos and Jerry Gracio and marks the second major collaboration of Cineko Production with Star Cinema, which will distribute the film to mainstream cinemas.

It should be noted that this is the very first film project of Erich, Tom, and Lovi and their big-screen team-up is garnering a lot of buzz and excitement from both fans and industry insiders.

“The Significant Other” is Erich’s first movie since her fantastic Metro Manila Film Festival 2017 entry “Siargao.” The movie also coincides with The Blood Sisters, which is her newest series on ABS-CBN.

Tom, on the other, makes a grand comeback with Star Cinema as the last Star Cinema film that he appeared in was 2015’s blockbuster hit “The Love Affair,” which starred Richard Gomez, Dawn Zulueta, and Bea Alonzo.

This is also Lovi’s very first movie project with Star Cinema.

It opens in theaters starting February 21.
