KZ Tandingan blows Jessie J. away in ‘Singer 2018’

KZ Tandingan wowed the international stage during her outstanding performance of Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” in China’s biggest singing competition on TV, “Singer 2018.”

She bested out world-renowned singer Jessie J, who was the top contender in the previous weeks, in the said episode that aired on Friday, February 9.

According to KZ Tandingan’s management Cornerstone, the China team initially suggested a different song for KZ to perform. However, they pushed for it as KZ had wanted to rap in Tagalog for her first show appearance.

Meanwhile, they might have competed in the show but KZ and Jessie J made a connection and became instant friends behind the camera.

On her Facebook account, KZ shared the conversation she had with Jessie J backstage. The Filipina singer was totally star struck by the international pop star. It was an emotional moment not only because Jessie is her idol but also because KZ got to talk to the person who inspired her to sing again at a difficult point in her life.

KZ admitted to Jessie that she almost quit singing in high school.

“I almost stopped singing because I couldn’t reach the high notes anymore because I had a polyp in my vocal chords. And [then] I heard you and …I realized I didn’t have to hit those high notes to make a difference as a singer so I started singing again. And who I am as an artist now, a big chunk of that is because of you,” she told Jessie J.

Although KZ and Jessie are deemed competitions on the show, the “Mahal Ko o Mahal Ako” singer got star struck when she saw the “Price Tag” singer for the first time by accident. Jessie was on her way to the restroom when she passed by KZ’s dressing room.

“The production team captured KZ’s surprised reaction and also their touching conversation afterwards... That moment, which became part of the opening scenes of 5th episode, became very endearing to the Chinese market that KZ and Jessie J became the 9th most searched in Weibo upon the episode’s broadcast,” her management said.

Currently, the said episode reached the top 5 trending slot on YouTube.

Produced by Hunan Broadcasting System (HBS),”Singer 2018” is a weekly show wherein singers are eliminated each week and a new challenger is introduced.

Makisig Morales is set to star in the upcoming fantasy series “Bagani.” The actor said he immediately agreed to do the series when it was offered to him.

“The management and the production team po contacted my parents and asked if I can do this role and I said yes po without any hesitation. Sa isip ko po, makakapagpasaya na naman ako ng mga tao. Na-excite po ako kasi another fantaserye po ito. After ‘Super Inggo,’ wala pa po ulit ako naging role na ganito, kaya I’m really happy,” he stated.

He confessed he missed acting that’s why he said yes to the offer. “Hindi po ako humihindi sa opportunity. Also, I really missed acting and ang mga God-given talents po dapat shineshare sa iba. Gusto ko makapagpasaya ng mga tao. ‘Yun naman din ‘yung main reason kaya pumasok ako sa industry na ‘to – to make people happy kasi it makes me happy too,” he said.

Makinig underwent training for his role in the series.

“We had some training nung bumalik po ako sa ‘Pinas. Forms and stunts ang focus po namin. Also I need to stay fit po para magawa ko ‘yung mga stunts required.”

He added he enjoyed shooting a series again after being away for quite some time. “Masasabi ko lang po, masaya and good to be back. Hindi ko maipaliwanag ‘yung excitement ko.”

Is he returning to showbiz full time?

“I can’t promise po, pero why not ‘pag may opportunity na binigay ang ABS.”

“My Fairy Tail Love Story” stars Janella Salvador and Elmo Magalona are both suckers for good stories, but when it comes to fairy tales, their tastes differ.

Janella grew up idolizing the Disney princesses.

“My mom told me before that when I was a kid talaga lahat ng Disney –mapa-‘Little Mermaid,’ ‘Mulan,’ ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ ‘Cinderella,’ lahat – nagasgas na daw ‘yung VCDs sa kakaulit-ulit ko. So siguro lahat ng panunuod ko nag-pay off pero my two favorites talaga are ‘Mulan’ and ‘Little Mermaid’ talaga. Siguro kasi ‘Mulan,’ gusto ko siya kasi she’s the strong princess. Tapos, ‘Little Mermaid’ siyempre kasi mermaid. Siguro nahalo ko sa character ni Chantel ‘yung dalawa kasi medyo may pagka-strong din siya.”

Elmo, meanwhile, said the classic fairytale characters influenced his childhood.

“I have a divided answer. Kasi growing up, hindi talaga ako mahilig sa mga ganung movies, pero when I got older, I saw movie ‘Princess and the Frog’ and siguro the reason why I liked it is because I grew to like animation and that style of art and then may touch of music pa siya. So I guess ‘Princess and the Frog’ is the best one for me.”
