Judy Ann tackles comedy

The stars of “Dalawang Mrs. Reyes,” Judy Ann Santos and Angelica Panganiban have always admired each other.

Thus it was a quick decision for the two to accept the project.

Judy Ann revealed she was supposed to do a different project with director Jun Lana.

“But when he presented the script of ‘Dalawang Mrs. Reyes’ and I started reading it, I told him ako na ang kunin niya as one of the two Mrs. Reyes,” she related.

“Pagbubutihan ko, I promised him. Kasi parang ‘di siya makapaniwala, since he is used to my being a drama performer.

“Dumoble lalo ang enthusiasm ko to do the movie when I learned they earlier offered one of the roles to Angelica. And I must confess, I have always wanted na makatrabaho siya,” she further said.

The movie, describe Judy Ann and Angelica, is a riot from beginning to end.

Director Lana felt getting either Judy Ann or Angelica to play Mrs. Reyes would have been more than enough. Both both actress accepting the offer? It was just like hitting the jackpot, he said.

“Kaya sobrang hulog ng langit na maididirek ko sila both sa pelikulang ito,” he said.

The movie is Lana’s, while the screenplay he co-wrote with Elmer Gatchalian.

“Unique, in a way, ang plot ng kuwento, since ‘di mo iisiping two beautiful women – sa kuwento, ha – would fall for two men na parehong may mga itinatagong lihim,” he related. “Somehow, may drama rin na yayanig sa manonood ng pelikula.”

Joross Gamboa and JC de Vera play the husbands of Judy Ann and Angelica who fall for each other.

It is not the first time for both actors to play homosexual. Joross got a lot of good feedback for his portrayal in the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry “Deadma Walking.” JC played a gay role in the indie movie, “Best Partee Ever,” an entry in QCinema 2016.

“And Dalawang Mrs. Reyes” opens in theaters nationwide on January 17. It is produced by Jun Lana and Perci Intalan’s IdeaFirst Company with Quantum Films and Star Cinema.

“I welcome suitors, I will not deny that,” she said, “I’m free to do so naman, ‘di ba?

“Ang hindi ko sure if I’d go into another serious relationship this early.”

Last year, Erich broke up with boyfriend of two years, Daniel Matsunaga.

“Actually, my focus now is my showbiz career. The New Year seems to be starting right for me,” she also said.

“Right now, I’m starting a new series with me playing three characters. And I’m teamed up with one of my favorite leading men, fellow Kapamilya Enchong Dee.

“Enchong, if you recall, was my first leading man in my first series ever, ‘Katorse’,” Erich further related.

Enchong had a short role in one of the well-admired entries in the last MMFF, “Siargao,” which also had Erich, Jasmine Curtis-Smith and Jericho Rosales in the cast.
