John Raspado wins Mr. Gay World tilt

JOHN Fernandez Raspado, a 36-year-old marketing entrepreneur from Baguio, won the 9th Mr. Gay World Pageant in Maspalomas, Spain last Wednesday night (yesterday morning PH time), besting 20 other straight-looking gay men worldwide to become the first Asian

winner of the international tilt that advocates for equality and respect for everyone, the LGBTQI community in particular.

Aside from his historic feat, Raspado also won five other awards: Best in Swimwear, Mr. Online Vote, Mr. Interview, Mr. Social Media and Best in Formal Wear (for his dapper formal attire created by renowned fashion designer Leo Almodal).

Raspado was cheered on by a big group of Filipinos in Maspalomas, including a contingent from the Mr. Gay World Philippines Organization headed by Wilbert Tolentino, who coincidentally, was the first Filipino to compete in the inaugural Mr. Gay World Pageant in 2009 in Whistler, Canada.

Runners-up to Raspado were Candido Arteaga of Spain, first; Raf van Puymbroeck of Belgium, second; Alexander Steyn of South Africa, third; and Marco Tornese of Switzerland, fourth.  Raspado succeeded last year’s winner, Roger Gozalbes of Spain.

“On behalf of Mr. Gay World Philippines and myself... I wish to thank you all who have devoted precious time in voting everyday and supporting me all the way…,” John posted on his Facebook Page moments after his victory.

Tonight at Resorts World Manila, twenty-three of the country’s most captivating bikini bodies will vie for the Miss Bikini Philippines 2017 title and the right to be the official delegate to the Top Model of the World to be held in Cairo, Egypt later this year.
