Fil-German beauty vies for Miss Eco Int’l in Egypt

EARLY next week, reigning Miss Eco Philippines Cynthia Magpatoc Thomalla will leave for Cairo, Egypt to represent the Philippines at the fourth Miss Eco International that will be held from April 10-28.

A 22-year-old, 5’7” Tourism and Events Management graduate of STI-Maasin in Leyte, Cynthia was born in Germany, raised and schooled in Macrohon, Southern Leyte and represented Cebu at last year’s Miss World Philippines.

The multi-titled Cynthia was crowned as Miss Pintados Southern Leyte 2013, Sinulog Festival Queen 2016 and Reyna ng Aliwan Fiesta 2016 before she copped the MWP Miss Eco Philippines crown last September 2017.

She will be the last of Miss World Philippines’ titlists to compete internationally, after the successful campaigns of Miss World 2017 Beauty with a Purpose winner Laura Lehman, Reina Hispanoamericana 2017 Teresita Ssen Marquez and Miss Multinational 2017 Sophia Sordan Señoron.

The grand finals is expected to attract more than 50 delegates worldwide – tourism and environmental campaigners all. It will be staged at the Cairo Opera House Elzamalek and will be hosted by German host-singer-actor Lutz Riemenschneider.

Oblena-Nasser as the chairwoman for the second edition. Oblena-Nasser is an accomplished businesswoman, socialite and a philanthropist. She is the president of Legacy Group of Companies, the umbrella company of several businesses that her family owns. She is also busy with many social and civic works as the president of Inner Wheel Club Philippines International.

“I am happy to formally welcome my Ate Peaches as the chairwoman of this year’s Mr. Universe Tourism,” said Kasama Inc. president Gerald Ortiz. “She has been helping us last year for our first edition and now she will be taking a huge role for the success of the this year’s pageant.”

“I am humbled to accept the role as chairwoman for this year’s edition,” Oblena-Nasser replied. “I will be working with all the members of the national organizing committee to make Mr. Universe Tourism 2018 successful.”

More than 30 countries are expected to field their delegates to the pageant where the organizers will implement the “one country, one delegate” policy.

To help her with this year’s edition, Landjeet Karam was appointed and crowned as Mr. Universe Tourism 2018 Ambassador. The Manipur, India native is currently residing in the Philippines while studying at University of Perpetual Help System DALTA. He was one of the 22 candidates last year and will be helping the chairwoman in the promotion of the pageant as well as oversee the preparation for this year.

The grand launch of the international tilt was held in Manila yesterday.

“The preparation for Mr. Universe Tourism 2018 is in full swing,” said Ferdinand G. Abejon, the managing director for the pageant.  “The appointment of both Ms. Peaches Oblena-Nasser and Landjeet Karam would be of great help in realizing our plans for this year and beyond. Last year we had 22 delegates and we hope to exceed that number this year.” The second Mr. Universe Tourism is scheduled on May 22-30 in Manila. At the grand launching recently of One Esplanade Bay Ballroom, the premiere venue by the bay was transformed into a most fitting summer place inspired by the time-warped streets, sights and sounds of Havana, Cuba, for a hip Havana Night. The party was co-presented by Prime Events Productions Philippines Foundation Inc. (PEPPS), whose Misters of Filipinas and Man of the World “kings” also graced the occasion.

The event also coincided with the premiere male pageant organization’s trade launch for its forthcoming and most-awaited grand events this year including Misters of Filipinas, Man of the World, Halloween Horror House and more.

Also at the same event, Carlo Morris Galang, PEPPS president, conferred the Misters of Filipinas franchises to its new licensees in Tarlac City and Laoag City.

The event was capped by a summer fashion show featuring PEPPS current and past beauty kings as well as beauty queens from Miss Scuba Philippines.
