Bigger, better, bolder Miss World Philippines

THE new Miss World Philippines Organization, re-branded and now under the chairmanship of Arnold L. Vegafria and general manager Bessie Besana, was launched at the New World Hotel Makati the other Wednesday with no less than five of the last six Miss World Philippines beauties – Miss World 2011 1st runner-up Gwen Ruais, Miss World 2012 top 15 finalist Queenie Rehman, Miss World 2013 Megan Young, Miss World 2015 top 10 finalist Hillarie Parungao and reigning Miss World Philippines and Miss World 2016 3rd runner-up Catriona Gray – gracing the event to show their full support for a bigger, better, and bolder search for the next Filipina Miss World.

Miss World 2014 top 25 finalist Valerie Weigmann was in New York for modeling stints and will join the rest of the Miss World beauties come finals night.

Megan shared her journey as the first Filipina Miss World and promised to extend all the help she can give to ensure the success for the search for the next Pinay Miss World.

For this year, the search will also have three other titles at stake – Miss Eco Tourism Philippines, Miss Reina Hispano-Americana Philippines and Miss Multinational Philippines – who will represent the Philippines in forthcoming international pageants in
Egypt, Bolivia and India, respectively.

This year’s search will be patterned after Miss World’s format with fast-track challenges namely: Beach Beauty, Top Model, Multi Media, Sports and Talent where the winners of each event will automatically gain a semi-final slot.

A Charity Gala Night will also be held where funds raised and pledged from its Charity Day event will be formally turned over to its beneficiary institution, the Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center in Tayuman, Manila.

“This is the core of the Miss World Pageant and its national counterparts worldwide,” said Besana. “More than just a beauty pageant, Miss World Philippines is a charity organization in line with Miss World’s “Beauty with a Purpose” that has helped
millions of underprivileged children worldwide.

The pageant will run from August 5 to September 3, which will be the coronation night at SM Mall of Asia Arena to be aired live on GMA 7.

“We hope to produce the next Pinay Miss World soon and we are eyeing to host the 69th Miss World Pageant in Manila in 2019,” said Vegafria, who took over the reins as Miss World national director from Cory Quirino earlier this year.

The much awaited grand coronation night of the 17th Miss Philippines Earth Pageant happens tomorrow night at the MOA Arena with 40 of the country’s environmental advocacy-driven ladies vying for the coveted crown and the right to represent the
Philippines at the Miss Earth international finals later this year.

After a grueling, month-long series of activities, challenges and subsidiary events, including the preliminary judgings for body and figure, face and poise and intelligence and dedication that was seen on livestream by pageant audiences, we have picked
twelve delegates who are most likely to advance to the finals: Jessica Rose Mangalindan McEwen from Floridablanca, Pampanga and representing her father’s homeland of New Zealand; Samantha Viktoria Leonardo Acosta, a rice dealer from Pulilan,
Bulacan; Anne Krishia Teves Antonio, an executive search consultant from Porac, Pampanga; Rianne Charlotte Kalaw, a BS Tourism student from Lipa City; Karen Santos Ibasco, a medical physicist from Manila; Sandrine Sarangaya Stoelzaed, a
Business Management graduate from Puerto Princesa City; Jessica Marasigan, an ABS-CBN artist from Caloocan City; Klaidel Hope Anderson Concepcion, a BS Biology student from Marikina City; Catherine Cabaniag, a BS Social Studies student
from Panglao, Bohol; Sherlyn Legaspi Doloriel, a Marketing graduate from Cagayan de Oro City; Danna Rose Socaoco, a government employee from Magsaysay, Misamis Oriental; and Korin Frances Dizon from Angeles City.
