Beauty and culture

TWENTY contestants will compete for the coveted Jewel of the Philippines titles at the GT-Toyota Asian Auditorium in UP Diliman tomorrow night.

The winners will eventually represent the country in international beauty pageants, namely, Miss United Continents, Miss Tourism World, Charity Queen International, Miss Globe International and the much awaited inaugural Jewel of the World.

Beauty pageant organizer and mentor John de la Vega of Orientscape Productions partnered this year with KIF Travel and Leisure Group headed by Tu Yu Han a.k.a. Rocky in mounting the Jewel of the Philippines tilt.

More than just the traditional swimsuit and evening gown competitions, Jewel of the Philippines is a pageant where the contestants will focus on the rich history and culture of the Philippines by promoting its customs and traditions, festivals and tourist wonders.

We have picked five ladies who are most likely to make the final cut tomorrow night: Andrea Delgado of Naga City, Achelle Joy Medrano of Lipa City, Sarah Jireh Asido of Balagtas, Bulacan; Mary Rose Cajayon of Quezon City and  Ann Rose Tee of Zamboanga City.

Meanwhile, the inaugural Mister Grand International gathered 25 hunks who will vie for the coveted title tonight at Crossroads 77 Convenarium in Quezon City.

Campaigning to promote the national sports of their respective countries, these hunks traveled to Ilocos Sur, the pageant’s host province, earlier this week.

The Mister Grand International Organization is headed by Mark Gil Balisacan (president), Emanuele Amboy (vice president for administration) and Eduardo Pillora (vice president for creative and entertainment).

Six of our seven picks won all the titles at stake at the 5th Misters of Filipinas Pageant held last September 30 at One Esplanade.

Congratulations to Raven-Renz  Tiglao Lansangan of Mabalacat (Mister International), Clark Karklins Peralta of Camarines Sur (Man of the World), Yves Abapo Campos of Filipino Community of Hawaii (Mister Supranational), Rubi Pulta Kust of Filipino Community of Germany (Man of the Year), Carlo Miguel Campos (Mister Ocean International) and Ion Dungo Perez  of Capas, Tarlac (Mister Universe Tourism).

Hats off to Prime Events Productions Philippines Foundation Inc., headed by Carlo Morris Galang, for successfully staging the event.
