DOLE marks 84th anniversary

THE Department of Labor and Employment marks its 84th anniversary today, December 8, with celebrations to be done simultaneously in 17 regions throughout the country.

Working behind the theme “Trabahong Marangal Para sa Lahat, Sabay-Sabay Natin Iangat,” the anniversary celebration will be marked by various activities such as Job and Business Fair, commonly dubbed as Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK); release of livelihood assistance checks to selected, qualified beneficiaries and workers in the formal/ informal sector such as farmers, fisher folks, women and community workers, even company displaced workers.

Select groups of immediate family members of those Killed-in-Action/Wounded-in-Action during the Marawi Crisis will also be given Kabuhayan or livelihood assistance.

As part of the TNK, assistance and in coordination with other public sector agencies as the DTI, TESDA, NBI, SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-ibig, DOLE attached agencies such as the NLRC, NCMB, OWWA, POEA, ECC (Employees Compensation Commission), PRC (Professional Regulations Commission), OSHC (Occupational Safety and Health Center) and the NRCO (National Reintegration Center for OFWs), will be available to workers and the general public. These include employment and business counseling, processing of documents and selected services as well as answering queries.

Health and wellness services by TESDA graduates as well as games dubbed Larong Pinoy will also be held.

The celebration will start with a mass at the St. Joseph Cathedral, to be followed by a motorcade, a Zumba session at the Rizal Park onward to the job and business fair.

An important part of the anniversary celebration is the Forum-Social Dialogue with the Mining Sector Industry partners and stakeholders at the Oasiz Hotel, Butuan City.  Entitled “Capacity-Building on Social Dialogue for a Just Transition and OSH in Mining Sector,” the activity is sponsored by ILO- International Labor Organization, Manila with DOLE-Caraga, MGB-DENR.

This will be participated in by trade unions involved in the mining sector in Caraga region, representatives from national federations, labor-management, safety officers/ health workers in the mining industry, partners and stakeholders.  Objective is to enable them to understand issues concerning environmental sustainability and decent work in the sector; and how to use social dialogue, including collective bargaining to improve safety and health issues and ensure a just transition.
